Help Get the Garfield Park Community Orchard Ready for Winter!

The fruit trees are in the ground, and now it’s time to tuck the orchard in for winter! Join us for our final volunteer workdays of the season as we protect the newly planted trees and help shape the orchard’s future. Bring your ideas for community events and activities you’d love to see in this space!

Here’s what we’ll be working on:

• Installing rabbit protection and winterizing the orchard.
• Clearing weeds from around the newly planted trees.
• Spreading mulch to lock in moisture and protect roots from winter temperature swings.
• Discussing plans for a community stewardship team to help the orchard grow into a vibrant community gathering space.

Three opportunities to join us!

With Chicago Public Schools closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day, we especially invite families to join us that day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. You can also lend a hand on Monday, Nov. 9, or Friday, Nov. 13, in the afternoon.

We'll provide warm beverages, gloves, and snacks. Just dress for the cold and wear sturdy footwear suitable for uneven terrain.
