The Garfield Park Community Council has a new look!

CHICAGO, IL – The Garfield Park Community Council (GPCC) is proud to announce a new visual identity, effective November 9, 2020.

Originally established in 2005 as a spin-off of the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, the Garfield Park Community Council (GPCC) is a community-based organization on the West Side of Chicago with resident-led programs in housing, business development, and public safety along the neighborhood's commercial corridors, wellness, and urban agriculture, and resident organizing and leadership. The organization’s growth over time, in outreach and programming, led to the development of a new visual identity.

Mike Tomas, Executive Director, shares "We took this opportunity to think about where the GPCC has been, where we are now, and how to best communicate with our residents. Our new brand identity better reflects our goals and is a representation of the tightly-knit community and resident leadership that exists in Garfield Park."

The new identity emphasizes and offers consistency and flexibility, and promotes unity while highlighting the variety of programs offered through GPCC and neighborhood partners. The logo’s wordmark emphasizes the organization’s acronym and is rooted in a font from a Black-owned type foundry, Vocal Type Co. The specific font (“Bayard”) is based on signs developed for the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which was led by Bayard Rustin. Dr. King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech at this march. More recently, organizers of the 2020 Virtual March on Washington used the Bayard typeface in their materials. GPCC is excited to share a wordmark and logo that honors Bayard Rustin, Dr. King, and all those who worked alongside them on the West Side of Chicago and beyond.

Laura Wetter, Director of Development and Communications adds "Our goal was to not only update the organization's look, but to emphasize the connections that already exist between our programs and throughout the neighborhood. We hope this rebrand will help facilitate ongoing growth within the organization as well as in the wider Garfield Park community,"

The Garfield Park Community Council (GPCC) is a community-building organization of dedicated residents and allies working together to develop leaders and create opportunities and programs that build a vital Garfield Park community.
